Model PRK - processor keyboard
The PRK is a 76-note weighted keyboard controller which is designed to work either with the PPG system, or with individual components. In addition to the extended and enhanced keyboard the PRK adds velocity control to the Wave or EVU components. The PRK also has the capability to dump samples into the Wavetables of a Wave or EVU, as is a feature of the Waveterm. This capability becomes very important for users who do not own a Waveterm as it allows sample playback at a lower cost than purchasing the expensive Waveterm computer. The PRK had two basic design stages. The first was simply called the PRK and featured samples stored in eproms on plug in sound cards. As technology moved forward the PRK-FD was introduced. The FD stood for floppy disk, and the storage limitations and cost of the hardware sound cards were eliminated. It should be noted that, like modern midi controllers, the PRK made no sound of it's own. The sound cards or floppies only held sample data, but the PRK had no way of playing this data on it's own. Only after downloading the data to a wavetable in a Wave or EVU could the sound be played by either component's oscillators. One interesting PRK option was a genuine Steinway wooden keyboard action. As of this writing it is not known if this option was available for the PRK, PRK-FD, or both. If you have any details about this use the Submit button below. To properly interface the PRK with other PPG components the PRK's DIP switches must be set accordingly. Visit the switch settings page for more information. |
